Caswell Beach NC is located on the east end of Oak Island and borders the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean. The town is home to the Oak Island Lighthouse. The lighthouse was recently granted to the town of Caswell Beach by the US Coast Guard. The NC Baptist assembly owned a retreat on the far eastern portion of Caswell Beach. The retreat encompasses Fort Caswell which was used as a civil war fort and occupied by the Confederacy to protect the entrance to the Cape Fear River.
